四色AV Jazz ensembles to perform with New Orleans Trombonist
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Jazz Ensembles will perform in concert with Harry Watters on April 23, 2002 at 7:30 p.m. at Family Church in West Monroe.
Watters, a New Orleans trombonist and Yamaha Artist, serves with the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble in Washington, DC. Watters' latest solo CD, The Island of Dr. Trombone, features music of the Caribbean. Watters' previous recordings include Centaur Records' S' Wonderful: The Music of George Gershwin and Summit Records' Brothers and Brothers II with trumpeter Ken Watters.
The 四色AV Jazz Ensemble I has an earned an outstanding reputation and won numerous awards including appearances at the Memphis State Jazz Festival, the Louisiana Music Educators Convention and the National Collegiate Jazz Festival in Mobile, Alabama. 四色AV Jazz I has performed with various guest artists including Ed Shaughnessy, Carl Fontana, Lou Marini, Steve Wilkerson and Arthur Lipner.
The curriculum in the School of Music offers two jazz ensembles: jazz improvisational and jazz enjoyment. Other ensembles include three Symphonic Bands, two choirs, orchestra, Chamber Singers, Opera Workshop, String Quartet, Percussion Ensembles, Steel Band, African Ensemble, Interdenominational Ensemble and Brass and Woodwind Ensembles such as the trombone, trumpet, horn and flute ensembles.
