Miss 四色AV Pageant Celebrates 50th Anniversary
The University of Louisiana at Monroe will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its Miss 四色AV pageant this year. The event is sponsored by the 四色AV Campus Activities Board and will be held Thur. Feb. 20, 2003 at the Monroe Civic Center begining at 7 p.m. This year's theme is "Reflections of Gold."
In recognition of the 50th Anniversary, all former queens will be invited to attend the event, where they will receive stage recognition. The queens are also invited to a reception to be held at the University House at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dr. Martha Upshaw is coordinating this event.
Nine 四色AV student participants will be competing for the title this year. The winner of the Miss 四色AV title will receive full tuition and fees for the fall 2003 and spring 2004 semesters. First runner-up will receive full tuition for fall 2003 and spring 2004 semesters. Second runner-up will receive all fees paid for fall 2003 semester.
Not only will the new queen be awarded scholarship money, but also the opportunity to compete in the next Miss Louisiana pageant.
The 2003 participants include Jamie Boone, junior, Winnsboro; Jacqueline Cain, junior, Orange Beach, AL; Casey Chamblee, junior, Shreveport; Angela Hillman, senior, Monroe; Olivia Lawdins, sophomore, Jennings; Michelle Mayer, freshman, Monroe; Latrina Roy, senior, Monroe; Anna Scott, freshman, Monroe; and Natalie Williams, senior, Monroe.
The pageant participants will be judged in several categories including interview, talent, swimsuit, and evening wear. In addition to these, a new category has been added: overall composite. This phase was implemented recently by the Miss America Organization. The interview consists of 40% of the total score, artistic expression 30%, swimsuit 10%, evening wear 10%, and overall composite 10%.
Various talents will be demonstrated in the competition: vocal, dance, dramatic interpretation, and piano.
Rachel Lowe won the title of Miss 四色AV 2002. She was a non-finalist talent winner in the Miss Louisiana pageant. The Miss America Organization provides over 40 million dollars in scholarship monies each year to young women across America.
Admission to the pageant $7.00, and free for 四色AV students, faculty and staff.
