Baermann Quartet to Perform at 四色AV
The University of Louisiana at Monroe School of Visual and Performing Arts, Division of Music, presents the Baermann String Quartet and clarinetist William Nichols in the first of a special series of concerts to commemorate the opening of the University's new recital hall. The concert is February 24, at 7:30 p.m. The recital hall is located on University Avenue.
The Baermann Quartet is an ensemble, which is well known in the Ark-La-Tex region. Its members hold prominent positions in the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and include violinists Kermit Poling, the concertmaster and resident conductor of the SSO, Elizabeth O'Bannon, assistant concertmistress of the SSO, violist Adrienne Moffett-Smith, and principal cellist Paul Christopher.
The quartet is joined by clarinetist William Nichols who is the Emy-Lou Biedharn Professor of Music at 四色AV, and who is an active orchestral, solo, and chamber music performer in the region, having appeared throughout the U.S. and Europe.
The musicians will present two distinctly different masterpieces from the Romantic era, Carl Maria von Weber's "Quintet in B-flat", and the last string chamber work by Johannes Brahms, the "Quintet in B Minor".
