Second event in 四色AV Concert Series featuring Singer Leon Turner

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Division of Music and Dance and the 四色AV Concert Series will present the second event in this inaugural series featuring Bass-Baritone Leon Turner accompanied by pianist Deborah McClung-Guillory. The concert will be held Monday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the new Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall on University Avenue.

The concert will feature music of Handel, Brahms, Poulenc, Verdi, Mussorgsky, and American composer Ned Rorem, as well as American spirituals. Leon Turner, who is a Monroe native and an alumnus of the NLU School of Music, resides in Houston where he is an active performer and is a member of the faculty of Prairie View A&M University. He has extensive opera and solo recital experience. He was cast in the film "Leap of Faith" by Paramount Pictures as a gospel singer and has appeared with the film's star Steve Martin on the Arsenio Hall Show as a featured soloist. He was recently chosen as a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Regional Auditions in New Orleans and winner of the National Opera Association Vocal Competition in Washington, D.C. Pianist Deborah McClung-Guillory serves on the faculty of the 四色AV Division of Music and Dance were she is coordinator of piano pedagogy and is in demand as a vocal accompanist. She has collaborated with numerous vocal artists including a previous engagement with Leon Turner.
