四色AV Speech Team Holds its Own Against the Big 12
The University of Louisiana at Monroe's Speech and Debate Forum completed its first-ever appearance at the Kansas State University Invitational Speech Tournament with a 6th place overall finish. The competition featured the Big 12 powerhouses Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas State, as well as twelve other universities from throughout the region. The tournament, hosted by Kansas State University, was held in Manhattan, Kansas on October 4th.
Team captains Isaac Henderson, who finished second in Dramatic Interpretation, and Nick Hirsch, who finished sixth in Prose Interpretation, led the team. Henderson and Hirsch have both now qualified for the National Forensics Association National Championship Tournament, to be held next spring in Providence, Rhode Island. Other members representing 四色AV were Lucia Anderson, Kymberleigh Bell, Tara Bouchie, Kina Reed, Tara Spangler, Lashonda Williams and Amy Wilson.
Team captain Isaac Henderson said, "The team's momentum is starting to build. I'm really happy with the performance of my teammates, and I think that their continued development coupled with their competitive successes against some of the top programs in the country is a positive sign for our chances at nationals this year."
The team will now take a couple of weeks off from competition as they prepare for October 24-26. At that time, 四色AV will host the annual R.J. Bicker Speech and Debate Tournament. 四色AV's team will then complete the fall semester with competitions at Central Missouri State University and Louisiana State University at Shreveport on the weekends of October 31-November 2 and November 14-16.
The 四色AV Speech and Debate Forum is open to any undergraduate student, and no prior experience is required. If you are interested in finding out more about the team, call Bob Alexander at 342-1462.
