四色AV'S Jaquess Places First in Women's Jump During the First Day of Competition at Regional's

Competition heats up on Bayou DeSiard as the teams in the South Central Region of National Collegiate Water Skiing gear up for the national title. The top three teams from this competition will advance to nationals, which will be held in Austin, TX on Oct. 16th-17th.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe is hosting "Bayou Fest", the regional water ski tournament on campus at Bayou DeSiard. Competition began today and will resume at 8 a.m. Sunday.

In Woman's Jump, 四色AV placed first in total team score. Helping 四色AV to the top in this event was Regina Jaquess, who won first place; Luisa Zetting, third place; and Breanne Wagner, fourth place. Carli Clifton and Brooke Osis also placed in the top ten.

In Men's Trick, 四色AV took the second place total team score. The Indian's Matt Curmi placed third, while Thomas DeGasperi and Federico Minelli both placed in the top ten.

Ski Team Coach, Bill Bagley, said of the day, "It's been a beautiful tournament. The weather and everything really worked out well. All the work the team put together has really paid off. One of the main things about hosting a tournament is to show off your University and we are able to do that more than most with our ski site right on campus."

"The first event was men's trick and we struggled a little in that, as in any sport you can do, and we have stepped back up with an outstanding performance on our woman's jump. We are looking forward to good day of skiing tomorrow," said Bagley.

There are three events judged in a skiing tournament- slalom, trick and jump. After all events are completed on Sunday, team scores for the tournament will be totaled.

In other ski team news the National Collegiate Water Ski Association, NCWSA, has just issued a new Coaches Poll for the week. It shows the Indian Ski Team ranked number one.
