Student Art on Display in Bry Art Gallery
The Division of Art at the University of Louisiana at Monroe is currently showing the 7th annual 四色AV Student Competition in the Bry Art Gallery.
Any currently enrolled 四色AV student was eligible to submit in competition up to three original works in any studio medium. Entries were jurored by the art faculty who curated the exhibition.
The following students had works accepted into this exhibition: Samantha Allen, Jennifer Clark, Erica Doane, Brooke Foy, Kelly Fuller, Jimmy Hale, Judy Hill, Zack Howse, Melissa Lee, Ben Moore, Nicole Moulder, Natalie Newton, April Parks, Philip Peyton, Stephanie Poche, Melissa Ponthieux, Logan Reulet, Michele Smith, Kathleen Tumey, Misty Wilkinson, and Coby Winn.
A reception was held recently in the Bry At Gallery to honor the exhibiting artists. A number of awards were presented at this reception, presided over by Visual and Performing Arts Director Keith White and art faculty members Robert Ward and Brian Fassett.
The annual Beverly Jean Marvin Memorial cash awards, selected from all art majors by the art faculty, were presented to Philip Peyton, Stephanie Poche and Michele Smith.
President James Cofer selected two works to receive the new President's Award, a one-year rental of art to be permanently displayed in his offices. Receiving this inaugural award were Brooke Foy for a steel sculpture titled "Dance," and Jennifer Clark for an oil painting titled "Bamboo Forest."
Provost Stephen Richters has established a Provost Award, also a yearly rental of a student work. Selected for this prize were Kathleen Tumey for a steel sculpture titled "Wish Fish."
Director of the School of Visual and Performing Arts, Keith White, has also established an award. Receiving this rental prize was Nicole Moulder for an acrylic painting titled "Cityscape."
The remaining prizes were selected by alumnus Jerry Wilson, who served as awards judge. Wilson chose three Awards of Merit Recipients. These students garnered gift certificates from Imagemax. The winners were Judy Hill for "Wish Fish;" Zack Howse for "Confessions Through Headlights," a color photograph; and Coby Winn for "Metamorphosis," a stoneware ceramic sculpture.
Another new cash award, in graphic design and anonymously donated by an alumnus was received by April Parks for "Court of Cats," a digitally manipulated drawing.
The Barry Darling 颅 Jerry Wilson Alumni Award of Excellence cash prize was presented to Michele Smith for "Self Portrait," a digital photograph.
Highlighting the awards presentation was the announcement of the Gretchen Masur Dean Best of Show cash award. This was received by Stephanie Poche for "Left Wanting," a fabricated steel sculpture.
This exhibition will be on view through May 6th. The Bry Art Gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
