2004 Fall Families in Focus Seminar

The 四色AV Social Work (SOCW) Child Welfare Title IV-E Program will host the 2004 Families in Focus Fall Seminar on Friday, September 10, at the Holiday Inn Holidome (Highway 165 South) in Monroe from 8 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.

Five contact hours of training will be available for Office of Community Service (OCS) workers, foster and adoptive parents, social workers and Title IV-E students.

This seminar, entitled Getting Fathers Involved in the Process, will explore the connection between child well-being and father absence/presence and issues in identifying and overcoming barriers to engaging fathers in the OCS process. It will also provide practical strategies for the office to involve fathers and strengthen the role of custodial and non-custodial fathers. Staff will also explore their own biases regarding father involvement.

The featured speakers for the event are Dan and Gail Tate. Dan is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Louisiana Family Council (LFC). Based in New Orleans, LFC has grown from one to three offices across the state. Dan a certified parenting facilitator in Parenting by Grace and Parenting of Teens. He is also a training consultant and co-author of Fresh Start Fathering Skills Curriculum, 1 + 1 Healthy Marriages and Relationships Curriculum, and Stop the Drama!!! (S.T.D.) Parental Relationship Building and Maintenance Curriculum for never-married and divorced couples.

Gail is the Executive Director of the Louisiana Family Council and is the co-author of Fresh Start Fathering Skills Curriculum, 1 + 1 Healthy Marriages and Relationships Curriculum, and Stop The Drama!!! (STD) Parental Relationship Building and Maintenance Curriculum, for never-married and divorced couples.
