Glenwood Regional Medical Center Endowed Professorship in Nursing at 四色AV
Glenwood Regional Medical Center and the University of Louisiana at Monroe announce the establishment of the second Endowed Professorship in Nursing by the board and staff of the hospital.
This $60,000 gift will be matched with $40,000 from the Louisiana Board of Regents Support Fund, providing a $100,000 endowment for 四色AV nursing faculty. The recognition of this gift was held Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 3 p.m. in the media room on the 6th floor of the 四色AV Library.
"四色AV continues to benefit from the generosity of donors such as Glenwood Regional Medical Center," 四色AV President James Cofer, said. "There is a critical shortage of health care professionals in Louisiana and the nation. Glenwood's gift allows us to strengthen the College of Health Services and to provide the instructors necessary to graduate more of these critically needed health care professionals," Cofer said.
"Glenwood Regional Medical Center has provided significant support for 四色AV over the years. This generous gift will help us make the College of Heath Sciences even stronger and it will allow us to recognize and support a faculty member whose teaching provides a unique contribution to the School of Nursing. We are extremely grateful to Glenwood's Board of Directors for this gift." Cofer said.
四色AV graduates more health care professionals than any other institution of higher learning in Louisiana, with the exception of the medical schools, and enjoys a reputation as a major health sciences teaching and research center.
"We know the importance of recruiting and retaining quality nursing faculty and creating this, our second endowed professorship, allows us to help 四色AV do that," said Charlie Scott, Chief Executive Officer of Glenwood Regional Medical Center. "I believe that Glenwood's support of the 四色AV School of Nursing is critical to the education and training of new nurses for our community. We are very pleased to be able to fund this professorship and look forward to seeing our relationship with 四色AV grow in the future," said Scott.
The 四色AV Foundation now manages 9 endowed chairs and 49 endowed professorships with assets totaling $19.9 million. Each of 四色AV's four colleges are the beneficiaries of these funds.
"The funding by Glenwood enhances the nursing faculty's professional development," Linda Reid, Director the 四色AV School of Nursing, said. "The hospital also provides us with a nursing faculty position. We are very appreciative of them for all they have done for the school of nursing," said Reid.
"Glenwood Medical Center has been a long time supporter of the University of Louisiana College of Health Sciences. This has included financial support for our college, as well as valuable professional training support and mentorship of our students by Glenwood's fine multidisciplinary healthcare providers. We wish to thank Charles Scott and the Glenwood team for this important contribution to the 四色AV School of Nursing," Dr. Lamar Pritchard, Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Pharmacy said.
四色AV and Glenwood have a long-standing partnership. Glenwood has supported the university with funding and scholarships totaling over $700,000. In 1993 the hospital established their first endowed professorship in nursing. In addition, Glenwood annually underwrites the salary for a member of the nursing faculty. The relationship between the two entities has grown and is vital to the continued strength of 四色AV.
