Classical Actor and Soap Opera Star Visits 四色AV

Soap opera star (Santa Barbara, General Hospital) and classical actor Lane Davies will serve as guest artist for the TheatreWorks 四色AV production of Equus, to be presented November 17-20. Davies will play the role of Dr. Martin Dysart, originally played on Broadway by Anthony Hopkins and on film by Richard Burton.

In addition to his work on the production, Davies will conduct classes for 四色AV students and will take part in two workshops open to the community. The first, "Meet Our Guest," is a format similar to the TV show "Inside the Actors' Studio" and will allow audience members to not only get to know the background of Davies, but share in his wisdom regarding acting. Audience members will also have a question and answer session with the actor. "Meet Our Guest" is scheduled for Friday November 4 at 7 p.m. in Spyker Theatre on the 四色AV campus. Admission is free.

The second of Davies' workshops, titled "Essential Shakespeare," is scheduled for Friday, November 11 at 3 p.m., again in Spyker Theatre. "Taking an unconventional approach to the Bard's material, borne out an eclectic background in Shakespeare, soap operas, and situation comedies, Mr. Davies covers the areas of scansion, research, voice production, imagination, ideation, and characterization, as well as the biographical and historical background of the author," said John J. Kelly, Head of the Division of Theatre and Dance at 四色AV.

Special attention will be given to the plays Hamlet, Julius Caesar, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The workshop is open to high school and college students and adult community actors.
