四色AV Launches Dual Enrollment Program
The inaugural year for the University of Louisiana at Monroe dual enrollment program has attracted 102 students from seven area high schools. These students are earning both high school and college credit in biology, English, and mathematics classes. Instructors for the classes are high school teachers who meet the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requirements of 18 graduate hours in their content area.
"This is one of the most exciting programs of my career as a professional educator, and it has been well received by all parties involved," said Dr. Rhonda Adams Jones, Director of the 四色AV Division of Continuing Education. "The dual enrollment program enables those students who meet 四色AV admissions requirements to earn six hours of college credit per year; it acknowledges the high quality teaching that is taking place at the high school level; and it saves on college tuition since the courses are offered at a special price. Those of us representing the university are pleased to partner with area schools, and we look forward to working with even more schools as the program grows."
Lisa Miller, Director of Recruitment and Admission at 四色AV, has highlighted the program by saying, "The university's goal is to allow highly motivated students an opportunity to earn college credit upon satisfactory completion of rigorous, advanced classes offered at the high school level. Many high school seniors have completed the majority of the minimum graduation requirements prior to the senior year; therefore, seniors may leave campus before the 3:00 dismissal time. This program motivates college-bound students to enhance their knowledge by enrolling in courses that will prepare them for college coursework. Participating students may earn a semester worth of college credit prior to enrolling in college as a first-time freshman."
On Thursday, September 22, representatives from 四色AV will meet with partnering school system teachers and administrators to review the current status of the program and further discuss the plans for the academic year. The meeting begins at 3:30 p.m. and will occur on the sixth floor of the 四色AV Library in the media room.
