Delta Sigma Phi fraternity to help cancer patient
All members of the University of Louisiana at Monroe fraternity Delta Sigma Phi will donate blood Saturday, Aug. 12 at 9:30 a.m. for the benefit of Jake Rayborn, a local child and cancer patient.
LifeShare Blood Centers will be on hand at the fraternity’s house on Stadium Drive as members line up for blood donation. Many know Rayborn, whose bone marrow is not yet able to properly produce blood and who thus depends on donations, through attendance at Cedar Crest Baptist Church.
“These guys are really awesome,” said Walter Creekmore, faculty advisor. “Not only do they excel academically, but they’re mature beyond their years and determined to make a difference.”
Plans for a future blood drive are in the works, Creekmore said.
