Kinesiology Department program accreditation breaks new ground on national level
The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Kinesiology Department is breaking ground nationally with its program accreditation.
The master’s program in clinical exercise physiology and the undergraduate in exercise science are now accredited by CAAHEP—the Commission on Accreditation on Allied Health Education Programs. The master’s program is the first of its kind in the nation to receive accreditation, and the undergraduate program is the second one in exercise science to receive the national distinction.
“The process was very strenuous, but now we have nationally established standards, and we’re the only accredited program in Louisiana,” said Lisa Colvin, Professor and Director of Graduate Programs in Exercise Science. “That’s what employers are looking for, and it’s also good for the public, as they can be assured that they’re in good hands. Students who are interested in exercise science should look to us for the gold standard in the state.”
