四色AV hosts luncheon for Teen Louisiana contestants

The University of Louisiana at Monroe hosted a mother-daughter luncheon for the Miss Louisiana's Outstanding Teen and Teen Princess contestants on June 15.

Thirty-four contestants and their mothers attended the memorable event honoring their participation in the 2006 pageant, the first one that Monroe has hosted.

"This university has put forth a great effort in showing its support of the pageant and we really appreciate that," said Don Humble, director of Miss Louisiana's Outstanding Teen. "We are looking forward to coming back next year."

"The luncheon gave us the opportunity to show our support for this scholarship pageant, as well as show off all of our improvements on campus," Lisa Miller, director of Recruitment and Admissions at 四色AV, said. "We hope that this event, as well many others, will continue to promote the university in a positive manner."

Miller spoke on wonderful opportunities that the pageant offers to the competing high school teens, including meeting new people, traveling, promoting self-esteem and most importantly scholarship opportunities for their higher education.

After welcoming those present, 四色AV President James Cofer spoke about the many programs of study the university offers as well as other campus related activities and improvements. The former Miss Louisiana's Outstanding Teen and Teen Princess honored Cofer with autographed programs for the 2006 pageant.

The mother-daughter luncheon not only honored the participants in the pageant but also served as a farewell luncheon for the title holders of the 2005 year. Tears of joy were expressed as the teens gave advice to the participants, such as to enjoy the opportunities that are given to you whether you win or lose, live for the moment and never give up on your dreams. The teens told emotional stories about how the pageant changed their lives by awarding them the opportunity to do many wonderful things throughout the state.

Also in attendance was Dewana Little, Executive Director of the Miss Louisiana Scholarship Organization.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe and the Miss Louisiana's Outstanding Teen organization have begun planning next year's luncheon for pageant week.
