Week of Welcome events scheduled for Aug. 18-25
ËÄÉ«AV students will begin their fall semester with the fun-filled Week of Welcome (WOW), which is jam-packed with activities scheduled from Aug. 18-25.
Week of Welcome Schedule
Friday, Aug. 18:
- Move-In Mania:
9 a.m.- 5 p.m. at the campus residence halls. Residents check in at the Activity Center. Volunteers check in at Bayou Suites Conference Room. ËÄÉ«AV campus representatives will help the students move into their new homes.
- Move-In Mania Lunch Social:
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Bayou Suites Conference Room. Residential Life/JPI and the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will provide a free lunch to ËÄÉ«AV students with ID and guests as they take a break from moving in. For more information on CAB events, contact: 318-342-5292.
- Lobby Parties:
7 p.m. at the campus residence halls. Each residence hall will host a social sponsored by Residential Life/JPI. For more information, contact: 318-342-5240.
Saturday, Aug. 19:
- Freshman Survival Block Party:
12 – 4 p.m. at Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM). BCM will sponsor a free cookout with games, t-shirts and more. For more information, contact: 318-343-4359.
- President’s Reception:
6 – 7:30 p.m. at the ËÄÉ«AV Library, 7th Floor. Students and parents are invited to join President Cofer and other ËÄÉ«AV representatives for refreshments on the terrace.
Sunday, Aug. 20:
- Resident Meetings:
5:30 p.m. at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Students will meet with their Resident Assistants (RAs), administrators and student affairs staff.
- Game Night:
6:30 – 9 p.m. at the Activity Center. Game Night includes food, games and prizes for ËÄÉ«AV students with valid ID.
Monday, Aug. 21:
- Coffee Breaks:
7:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Java City. CAB will offer free cups of coffee from Aug. 21-25.
- Information Stations and Maroon Platoon Draft
8 a.m. until noon at the Quad. ËÄÉ«AV students will help with directions and questions. Incoming students will also have the opportunity to join the very involved student group, Maroon Platoon.
- Mindball:
10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Quad. Students will test their mental skills and compete to win an iPod and other prizes.
- Convocation March:
4:30 p.m. at the Kitty Degree Bell Tower. Students meet here first before marching to Convocation.
- Convocation:
5 – 6 p.m. Students arrive at Fant-Ewing Coliseum for the official opening of the 2006-2007 school year.
- Grovestock:
6 p.m. – until. Students will meet in the Grove for free food, games and a band sponsored by CAB.
Tuesday, Aug. 22:
- Coffee Breaks:
7:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Java City. CAB will offer free cups of coffee from Aug. 21-25.
- SGA Luncheon/Voter Registration:
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Wigwam. Students will enjoy free pizza and music while also registering to vote, thanks to the Student Government Association (SGA). For information on SGA events, contact: 318-342-3485.
- Student Health and Counseling Center Open House:
4 – 6 p.m. at the Student Health Services and Counseling Center. Students may take this opportunity to become familiar with the Counseling Center and Student Health Services staff, along with other resources. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, contact: 318-342-5220.
- Hometown Hawks Information Meeting:
8:30 p.m. at Hemphill Airway and Computer Science Building, room 134. For more information, contact 318-342-5435.
- Drive-In Movie:
9 – 11 p.m. at the Grove. CAB will provide popcorn and drinks for the Scary Movie 4 showing.
Wednesday, Aug. 23:
- Coffee Breaks:
7:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Java City. CAB will offer free cups of coffee from Aug. 21-25.
- Activity and Resource Fair:
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the ËÄÉ«AV Library, 7th floor. Students will meet ËÄÉ«AV student organization representatives and find out about campus resources.
- ËÄÉ«AV Taste of the Twin Cities:
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the ËÄÉ«AV Library, 7th floor. Students will enjoy free food from around the Twin Cities.
- Hometown Hawks Information Meeting:
8:30 p.m. at Hemphill Airway and Computer Science Building, room 134. For more information, contact: 318-342-5435.
Thursday, Aug. 24:
- Coffee Breaks:
7:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Java City. CAB will offer free cups of coffee from Aug. 21-25.
- Greek Forum:
10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Quad. Students will learn more about ËÄÉ«AV Greek organizations and opportunities to participate in fall recruitment activities. For more information, contact: 318-342-5287.
- NPHC Informational:
7 p.m. at the ËÄÉ«AV Conference Center (Library, 7th floor). Students will meet the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Greeks and obtain information for potential new members. For more information, contact: 318-342-5287.
- Back to School Pep Rally:
9 p.m. at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Everyone can show school spirit and support all of the ËÄÉ«AV athletic teams.
Friday, Aug. 25:
- Coffee Breaks:
7:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Java City. CAB will offer free cups of coffee from Aug. 21-25.
- Spirit Day:
9 – 11 a.m. at the Quad. Any student, alumni, or staff or faculty member wearing maroon and gold will get a prize. Every Friday, excluding holidays, will be Spirit Day during the fall semester and will be sponsored by a different group.
