四色AV Summer Reading Program announces book selection

During the summer of 2006, incoming freshmen for the fall semester will read "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser as part of the 四色AV Summer Reading Program.

The Summer Reading Program provides educational enrichment and an early welcome to the 四色AV learning experience. The program intends to help students make the academic transition from high school to college level classes and to heighten the sense of unity among students, faculty, staff and the community.

Incoming students receive the book at no cost during PREP (Preview Registration Environment Program).

"It is the university's expectation that students read this book and be ready to use it in class and for assignments," Barbara Michaelides, director of retention, said. "We want to generate discussion and build our students鹿' first shared intellectual experience."

Students will have the ability to access the university web site for biographical author information, discussion questions and related resources.

Discussion of the text will occur in freshman English, Freshman Year Seminar (FRYS) and other campus classes. The English department will also sponsor an essay contest for cash prizes.

The 四色AV Bookstore has copies available for sale.
