Spring Plant Sale to continue April 12 – 13

The annual ËÄÉ«AV Spring Plant Sale will continue for a second weekend, April 12 – 13, offering a wide assortment of blooms and blossoms at the Plant Research Center/ËÄÉ«AV Greenhouse (3903 Bon Aire Dr., two blocks north of Fant-Ewing Coliseum). Saturday hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Sunday hours are 12 - 5 p.m.
This popular sale, held in support of the ËÄÉ«AV Herbarium in the Museum of Natural History, offers a variety of plants: annual bedding plants, geraniums, flower and foliage baskets, foliage plants, perennials, herbs, unusual tomatoes, peppers and eggplants, and Louisiana native wildflowers.
Proceeds typically do four things:
· pay for the operation of the day-to-day costs.
· provide funds to long-term digitization goals. Dr. Tom Sasek is at the beginning stages of the process. The plant sale will allow the purchase of a complete digitization system, providing access to information and high-resolution photos to anyone interested.
· support/create the museum displays related to botany and the educational aids which accompany them.
· improve the infrastructure of the greenhouses and plant research areas.
