四色AV Pikes return victorious from international convention
A delegation from the Eta Omicron Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha returned Monday, Aug. 4, with an impressive array of awards from the International Fraternities 140th Annual Convention in Memphis, Tenn.
The 四色AV Pikes honors include:
- A Chapter Excellence Certificate for overall chapter performance during the previous year.
- Two International Work Day Awards 鈥 one for overall participation and one for having the most alumni help with their local projects.
- Recognition for 100 percent participation in the Phi Phi Kappa Alpha Club (the undergraduate donor club).
- The 四色AV group鈥檚 Pledge Education Program was named as Pikes鈥 Best.
- Their Financial Management Program was named as Pikes鈥 Best.
- Their Ritual Program was a finalist in that competition section.
- 四色AV Pikes Josh Carroll and Micah Pulliam earned Gold Status for attending their fifth Pike university event.
- The 四色AV Alumni Association won the William R. Nester Award, marking them as the best alumni association in all of Pi Kappa Alpha. This is the 四色AV group鈥檚 11th Nester Award in the last 15 years. 四色AV鈥檚 Associate Director of Alumni Relations Tommy Walpole was on hand to accept the honor.
- The 四色AV Pikes capped off the convention by winning its 10th consecutive (and 15th in the last 17 years) Robert Adger Smythe Award for overall chapter proficiency.
The 四色AV Pikes became just the second chapter in the 140-year history of Pi Kappa Alpha to win 10 consecutive Smythes. The 四色AV Pikes鈥 10 victories in a row is the longest such win among current competing chapters, and is the second longest in the organization鈥檚 entire history. Also, the earning of 15 Smythes in 17 years is the second largest victory of its kind by a Pike chapter.
In local territory, this chapter has also been named as 四色AV鈥檚 Organization of the Year for the fifth time in the seven-year history of that award. Likewise, they have been named as the Greek Organization of the Year for the second time in three years.
Walpole praised the hardworking chapter members. 鈥淚 am extremely proud of the effort put forth by the fraternity last year and the last many years. All of our alumni are equally as proud, and we will continue to assist these young men in all areas.鈥
