Miss 四色AV Pageant scheduled for Oct. 2 at 四色AV
Several talented contestants will compete in the Miss 四色AV 2009 pageant Thursday, Oct. 2, beginning at 7 p.m. in Brown Auditorium.
The Miss 四色AV Pageant is a competitive scholarship program emphasizing physical fitness, casual wear, talent, public speaking, and academics.
Tickets will go on sale Monday, Sept. 22. 四色AV students, faculty and staff may pick up one ticket each for free at LA Capitol Federal Credit Union on 四色AV鈥檚 campus; additional tickets may be purchased for $6.
There are nine pageant contestants:
Hope Anderson, a 20-year-old junior and mass communications major from Monroe. Her platform is 鈥淟ove the Skin You鈥檙e In.鈥 Anderson鈥檚 talent is dance/ballet en pointe to 鈥淎ccentuate the Positive.鈥 She is the daughter of Alan and Onna Gallagher and of Mike and Brenda Anderson.
Lindsey Eickman, a 20-year-old junior and construction management major from Garland, Texas. Her platform is 鈥淟eaving a Legacy: The Importance of Campus Involvement.鈥 Eickman鈥檚 talent is vocal; she will perform 鈥淚 Could Have Danced All Night.鈥 She is the daughter of Scott and Mary Eickman.
Jennifer Free, a 19-year-old sophomore and music major from Rayville, though she graduated from high school in Southern California. Her platform is 鈥淎merican Cancer Society.鈥 Free鈥檚 talent is vocal; she will perform 鈥淥 Mio Babbino Caro.鈥 She is the daughter of Rose Marie and Michael Free.
Jada Freeland, a 21-year-old junior and biology major from Rayville. Her platform is 鈥淓ncouraging Self-Confidence in Adolescent Girls.鈥 Freeland鈥檚 talent is jazz dance; she will perform to 鈥淟ife of the Party.鈥 She is the daughter of Richard and Laura Lee Freeland.
Julie Mortan, a 19-year-old sophomore and pre-dental hygiene major from Hamburg, Ark. Her platform is 鈥淏reast Cancer Awareness.鈥 Mortan鈥檚 talent is dance; she will perform to a rendition of 鈥淏oogie Woogie Bugle Boy.鈥 She is the daughter of Sandra and Dickey Morton.
Allison Rawls, an 18-year-old freshman and marketing major from Bossier City. Her platform is 鈥淐hildren鈥檚 Miracle Network.鈥 Rawls鈥 talent is poem recitation. She is the daughter of Shona and Vince Laboy and of Edward and Larna Rawls.
Karmen Rubin, a 20-year-old junior and health studies management and marketing major from Shreveport. Her platform is 鈥淚 Vote: The Power of American Democracy.鈥 Rubin鈥檚 talent is dance; she will perform to 鈥淧.Y.T.鈥 She is the daughter of Peter Rubin and Vancell Williams.
Tiffani Terrell, a 19-year-old sophomore and biology major from West Monroe. Her platform is 鈥淗umane Society.鈥 Terrell鈥檚 talent is jazz dance; she will perform to 鈥淒iamonds Are a Girl鈥檚 Best Friend.鈥 She is the daughter of Sandy and Julian Terrell.
Kandice Williams, a 21-year-old senior and mass communications major from Monroe. Her platform is 鈥淧romoting Youth Leadership.鈥 Williams鈥 talent is flag twirling. She is the daughter of Janice and James Williams.
More about the pageant requirements:
Each contestant must be a single female that has never been married or had children; be between the ages of 18 and 24 years; be of good character and possess poise, personality, intelligence, charm, and beauty of face and figure; and possess and be able to display a trained talent in a 90-second performance.
The Miss Louisiana Scholarship Organization requires each contestant meet several other stipulations in order to compete in the Miss Louisiana Pageant. Each participant must be a talented, energetic and intelligent young woman, with a minimum 2.5 GPA during the previous semester, or a cumulative 2.5 GPA for current students, or a cumulative 2.5 high school GPA for first-time freshmen. They must also be enrolled full time at 四色AV.
