四色AV Alpha Lambda Delta chapter celebrates outstanding freshmen students at reception Sept. 23
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, the 四色AV chapter of national honor society Alpha Lambda Delta will host a reception, the annual Smarty Party, from 5-6 p.m. at Bon Aire, applauding the 276 freshmen students at 四色AV who have scored 24 or above on the ACT.
Dr. Martha Anderson, 四色AV assistant dean of students and Alpha Lambda Delta liaison administrator, expressed her pride in 四色AV鈥檚 newest class. 鈥淭his mean our freshmen at 四色AV have outstanding academic potential for qualifying for the prestigious Alpha Lambda Delta that honors students with GPAs of 3.5 plus after their first semester in college. We are thrilled that we have these top students at 四色AV.鈥
The 四色AV ALD chapter has been awarded the Silver Membership Award for 2008. Spring initiates saw an overall membership increase of 25 percent to 132 members. Dr. Harry Hale, professor of sociology, serves as the 四色AV chapter advisor.

Alpha Lambda Delta is a national society for freshman who maintain the high academic achievement of at least a 3.5 GPA during their first semester of college. Alpha Lambda Delta was established in 1924; the 四色AV chapter began in 1955. Since then, it has won the 鈥淥rder of the Torch鈥 (the highest recognition award from the national Alpha Lambda Delta organization) three times and the 鈥淢aintaining the Flame鈥 award three times as well.
Laura Lacey Hales, current president of the 四色AV Alpha Lambda Delta chapter and an accounting junior from Rayville, stated the organization鈥檚 purpose. 鈥淲e continue to uphold these high standards and promote academic excellence.鈥

- Kristin Frankhouser, vice president, a pre-pharmacy sophomore from Baton Rouge
- Katie Collins, secretary, an elementary education senior from Rayville
- Cortney Jackson, treasurer, of Sicily Island
- John Laing, internal communications, an economics sophomore from Bastrop
- Courtney Thomas, external communications, a computer information systems sophomore from Monroe
- Beth Collins, philanthropist, a criminal justice sophomore from Rayville
- Paul Caliste, historian/chaplain, an atmospheric sciences sophomore from Destrehan
- Heather Hinton, webmaster, an art sophomore from Delhi
Chapter tradition includes the annual Favorite Professors Wine and Cheese Reception. The chapter also participates in local community service, such as the Salvation Army ringing of the bells, Habitat for Humanity, Adopt-A-Spot, Up 'Til Dawn, the Cerebral Palsy Telethon, and volunteer opportunities at Sallie Humble Elementary School.
