College of Business honors academic excellence
The College of Business Administration at the University of Louisiana at Monroe held its 41st Annual Honors Banquet Friday, April 24, in the 四色AV Library Conference Center to honor its outstanding students.
The highest award given to a graduate from the College of Business Administration was the 2008-2009 Dean鈥檚 Award of Excellence presented to Ashley Murphy of El Dorado, Ark. She received $1,000 cash and the Wall Street Journal Award, which included a one-year subscription to the journal. She also received the Outstanding Graduate in Insurance Award.
The 2008-2009 Distinguished Scholar Award, which included $750, was presented to Kathleen Robinson of West Monroe. She also received the Outstanding Graduate in Accounting Award.
The 2008-2009 Outstanding Scholar Award, which included $500, went to Joseph Robert Beard of Vicksburg, Miss. He also received the Outstanding Graduate in Aviation Award.
The Award of Commendation, which included $250, went to Jennifer Allison Holtzclaw. She also received the Outstanding Graduate in Marketing Award.

Courtney Hilton of Ruston was selected by the graduate faculty of the College of Business Administration as the Outstanding Master of Business Administration Graduate for the 2008 calendar year. Shannon McMurry of Winnsboro received the Outstanding Graduate in Computer Information Systems Award. Joshua Barham of Monroe received the Outstanding Graduate in Computer Science Award. Chad McMillan of West Monroe received the Outstanding Graduate in Construction Management Award. Christopher Leader of West Monroe received the Outstanding Graduate in Economics Award. Jason H. McKoin of Bastrop received the Outstanding Graduate in Entrepreneurship Award. Ashley Moore of West Monroe received the Outstanding Graduate in Finance Award. Daniel G. Watt of Bastrop received the Outstanding Graduate in General Business Award. Ashley Duke of Rayville received the Outstanding Graduate in Management Award.
Graduating senior awards were presented to students who have stayed the course to graduation and have distinguished themselves in their major.

Beta Gamma Sigma, the national honorary fraternity for collegiate business students, selected its outstanding students. The Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding Junior Scholarship, which included a $1,000 scholarship for 2009-2010, was awarded to Alex Deshowitz of New Orleans; the Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding Undergraduate member is Micah Pulliam of West Monroe; and Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding MBA member is Juanita Hernandez of Colombia. The Chapter Honorees are Tex Kilpatrick and Dewey Weaver.
Juniors initiated into Beta Gamma Sigma were Alex Deshowitz of New Orleans; Andrew Easterly and Sarah Griffin of West Monroe; Laura Lacey Hales of Rayville; Nu Le of Pineville; Hannah Livingston of Jonesboro; Shaneeka Millicks of Vidalia; Sonya Patel of Monroe; and Karun Shrestha of Nepal.
Seniors initiated into Beta Gamma Sigma were Kate Adriaensen, Belgium; John Chisley, Jessica O鈥橯uinn and Thomas Tugwell, all of Monroe; Tettra Davis and Tamara Ward of Newellton; Ashlyn Labat, Denham Springs; Ashley Moore, Micah Pulliam and Joan Reeves, all of West Monroe; Katie Sanford, Jonesboro; and Rachel Stark, Jefferson City, Mo.
Master of Business Administration students initiated into Beta Gamma Sigma were Eddna Castro and Juanita Hernandez both of Colombia; and Chi Wong of Hong Kong.
Six students were honored as outstanding College of Business Administration freshman for the year. They were Lindsey Atkins, Bastrop; Fernando Cordova, Monroe; Lauren McCurry, West Monroe; Ashli McDonald, West Monroe; Stacia Palmer, Geisner; and Chandni Patel, Winnfield.
