National Spanish honor society initiates new members

The Lambda Sigma Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi at the University of Louisiana at Monroe initiated seven new members on Nov. 23.

The new members are: Christian Hadwin of Ball, William Booth, Yung Choi, Marci O鈥橬eal and Matthew Street of Monroe and Sevil Alieva of Tajikistan. 四色AV Spanish instructor Themis Jacobus was initiated as an Honorary Member.

Chapter officers, including President Heather Black of West Monroe, Vice President Andrew Newman of Collinston and Secretary Loukia Konstantinidou from Cyprus, conducted the ceremony with help from several chapter members, including Dustin Johnson of Winnfield and Mallory S谩nchez and Karen Higuera, both of West Monroe.

Sigma Delta Pi recognizes students who have demonstrated a love of Hispanic culture and language. Students must be in the top third of their class and maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average in Spanish, including a course in literature or culture and civilization. The Lambda Sigma Chapter was founded in 1976.
