ËÄÉ«AV cited among reasons Monroe on national list of areas with rising home values
A Kiplinger.com article published this month indicates Monroe is among the top 10 American cities where median home values have actually increased – and the article cites the presence of a university as a contributing factor.
Fiserv Lending Solutions, a home-price research company, provided statistics for Kiplinger, using median home prices from fourth quarter 2007 to fourth quarter 2008, the most recent data available.
Monroe’s median home price of $125,450 during that period indicates home values increased by 6.3 percent, according to the article.
Local schools of higher education, including University of Louisiana at Monroe and Louisiana Delta Community College, are among several reasons listed in the article for the positive direction of the city’s home values.
University towns make up the majority of the listed areas reportedly showing home value increases. The cities, and universities if applicable, are:
1. Midland, Texas; Midland College
2. Decatur, Ala.
3. Monroe, La.; University of Louisiana at Monroe
4. Kingsport, Tennessee/Bristol, Va.
5. Victoria, Texas
6. Bryan-College Station, Texas; Home to Texas A&M.
7. Tuscaloosa, Ala.; University of Alabama.
8. State College, Pa.; Home to Penn State University.
9. Laredo, Texas
10. Lubbock, Texas; Texas Tech University.
