“What Do Women Want?” March 26; part of Women’s History Month

ËÄÉ«AV’s Diversity Committee will host “What Do Women Want?” Thursday, March 26, 2:30 p.m. – 4 p.m., on the first floor of the ËÄÉ«AV Library, Room 106. The program will feature ËÄÉ«AV faculty and other special guests in honor of Women’s History Month.

Lynn Clark, chair of the Women’s History Month Committee and assistant professor of curriculum and instruction, said, “We are very excited to have Dr. Jackie De Hon returning to our campus to speak about the political and economic contributions of women both locally and globally.”

De Hon will also read from her upcoming book “Prisms: Refracting the Light of Women’s Lives.” Building on the literary theme, the program will feature a performance of Emily Dickinson’s letters and poetry by Cathy Airhart Webb, and Professor Marsha McGee will read poetry on “Honoring the Divine Feminine.”

ËÄÉ«AV Professors Mara Loeb and Attapol Kuanliang will focus on women in the world of work with presentations "From Women's Work to Working Women: An historical overview of the gendering of labor" and "Gender differences in research productivity among criminal justice and criminology scholars" respectively. There will be time at the end of the program for questions and comments.

ËÄÉ«AV faculty member Robert Hanser will present on specific contributions of female scholars to criminology and criminal justice - disciplines that have traditionally been male-oriented - with his presentation titled “The Impact of Feminist Criminologists on a Male-Dominated Discipline: A Focus on the Contributions of Meda Chesney-Lind.”
