Major textbook publisher releases work of 四色AV history professor

McGraw Hill, a major textbook publisher, recently released the work of a University of Louisiana at Monroe professor of history.

四色AV History Professor Terry L. Jones wrote the college-level textbook, "The American Civil War," which has already prompted professors from Virginia to Texas to adopt it for their classes.

Jones' writing style "blends traditional military, political history, and social history with informed current scholarship in a fresh and balanced narrative about the Civil War," according to the publisher's website.

"It's difficult to teach a class on the Civil War because there is so much material to cover," conceded Jones.

"This book covers the military events in a chronological narrative so students can clearly follow the ebb and flow of battle," he said. "The other topics are covered in individual stand alone chapters. That way a professor can use class time to cover material the professor is most familiar with and let students read specific chapters on other topics."

An early chapter provides students with an introduction to military terminology to better prepare them for understanding the military coverage that follows, said Jones.

In addition, biographical sketches of important personalities, little known facts about the Civil War, the histories of famous fighting units, and eyewitness accounts of dramatic events are featured in each chapter.

McGraw Hill will market the book internationally.

This is Jones' second published textbook in the last two years. The previous one, "The Louisiana Journey," is one of only two Louisiana history textbooks approved for use in public schools.
