Thameling wins Top Paper Award at national conference

Dr. Carl L. Thameling, department head and associate professor of communication at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, recently won a Top Faculty Paper Award at the Japan-US Communication Association Business Meeting.

The meeting was part of the National Communication Association’s national conference on Nov. 14 in Chicago.

Thameling co-authored the paper with Dr. Takuji Shimada of Tenri University in Japan. The paper, “An Exploration into the Account-Making Process Across Cultures,” measured responses of American and Japanese students to certain offenses, such as spilling coffee on a friend’s computer. Results showed significant differences existed in the responses of American and Japanese students.]

The paper was the second of two based on data collected from both professors’ schools. Their first paper was presented at last year’s NCA conference.
