四色AV toxicology graduate coordinates first Hazardous Materials Collection Day Oct. 31
A University of Louisiana at Monroe toxicology graduate is coordinating a Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day, a first for Ouachita Parish.
Kelby Neal, a 1996 toxicology graduate of 四色AV, said the collection is set to run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center parking lot in West Monroe.
四色AV Department of Toxicology students will be participating in this residential-only collection. No commercial material will be accepted at the collection.
鈥淭his is an excellent opportunity for our toxicology students to co-sponsor and participate in an important service project and help encourage responsible disposal of chemicals,鈥 said Dr. Kevin Baer, head of 四色AV鈥檚 Toxicology Department.
Baer added that volunteers from the community are still needed and are welcome to help with the collection process.
Some of the materials acceptable for collection include acids, aerosol cans, arsenic, auto products, cooking oil, batteries, bleach, bug sprays, wood preservatives, cleaning solvents, corrosive cleaners, degreasers, disinfectants, paint thinner, paint, fluorescent tubes, lawn and garden products, lighter fluid, moth balls, oven cleaners, polishes, televisions, stereos, turpentine, pool chemicals and medications.
Materials such as furniture, power tools, Styrofoam, fire extinguishers, fireworks and ammunition will not be accepted.
The Keep Monroe Beautiful, Keep Ouachita Parish Beautiful and Keep West Monroe Beautiful campaigns are partnering to sponsor the collection. For further information, contact Neal at 318-325-5326, or to volunteer contact Baer at 318-342-1698 or baer@ulm.edu.
