ËÄÉ«AV sorority celebrates founding anniversary
The Lambda Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority on the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus celebrated its 35th anniversary in October by planting an oak tree in Scott Plaza. The tree represents the chapter’s original 11 members who founded the chapter in October 1974.
Part of the Pan-Hellenic Council, Delta Sigma Theta has been involved in local community projects since its founding. With participation in events such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the American Heart Walk, Sickle Cell Walk, Great American Clean-Up and the Muscular Dystrophy Association Ride n’ Stride, members continually demonstrate commitment to the community.
Delta representatives say that the tree is just one more way to “give back” to the ËÄÉ«AV campus and community.
“The oak tree will not only beautify our campus,” Elise Gardner, the group’s parliamentarian, said. “It will also honor the Lambda Rho Chapter and its legacy.”
