四色AV Wind Ensemble performs Nov. 6
The University of Louisiana at Monroe鈥檚 Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Derle R. Long, will present a concert sponsored by the 四色AV Division of Music and School of Visual and Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 in Brown Auditorium.
Admission is free.
The program includes 鈥淭he Sinfonians March鈥 by James Clifton Williams, 鈥淛ericho Rhapsody鈥 by Morton Gould, 鈥淣itro鈥 by Monroe native Frank Ticheli, 鈥淥n An American Spiritual鈥 by David Holsinger, 鈥淭he Witch and the Saint鈥 by Steven Reinecke and 鈥淲ashington Post March鈥 by John Philip Sousa.
Guest conductors will include Dr. Michael Spears, former band director at West Monroe High School and Thomas Ruby, a current graduate student in music education at 四色AV.
鈥淥f particular interest on this program is the 鈥楯ericho Rhapsody,鈥欌 Long said. 鈥淭he piece is a symphony of short movements based on a spiritual folksong depicting Joshua bringing down the walls of Jericho. In the middle of the piece the percussion section is called upon to recreate the tremendous noise of the walls coming down.鈥
鈥淭he concert will conclude with the 鈥榃ashington Post March鈥 which was one of Sousa鈥檚 most popular works,鈥 Long added.
