四色AV Greeks kick off the school year
The University of Louisiana at Monroe鈥檚 Office of Greek Life began the school year by hosting various recruitment events for the 四色AV student body.
The events give potential new members a chance to interact with active members from the 16 social Greek organizations on campus.
Selected events hosted by the organizations included the National Pan-Hellenic Council鈥檚 (NPHC) 鈥淪trut-Off,鈥 a mixer and informational session held on Aug. 27, the National Panhellenic Council鈥檚 (NPC) formal recruitment week from Aug. 27 to Aug. 31 and the Interfraternity Council鈥檚 (IFC) preview week from Sep. 8 to Sep. 11.
The NPHC 鈥淪trut-Off鈥 and informational are annual events typically held at the beginning of the fall semesters. Both of these events offer 四色AV students an opportunity to obtain information and ask questions about the NPHC鈥檚 intake process. This year, the events were a huge success and over 300 students participated.
NPC鈥檚 Formal Recruitment Week allowed prospective women on campus to register on-line and attend the formal process of joining a NPC sorority. The week鈥檚 events included 鈥淏id Day鈥 during which more than 70 women accepted commitments from one of the three sororities.
During the IFC鈥檚 Preview Week, prospective fraternity men went through a series of open houses called 鈥淢eet the Greeks鈥 to find out more information about the fraternities at 四色AV. This year, more than 70 men accepted bids and IFC鈥檚 Bid Day included a live band tailgating party in the 四色AV Grove for the entire student body. 四色AV Student Government Association sponsored the event.
鈥淚t鈥檚 encouraging to see how hardworking and dedicated all of the 16 chapters are to improving the university community,鈥 said Keith Hembree, coordinator of 四色AV Greek Life. 鈥淭he number of students committing to 四色AV鈥檚 Greek Life this year accounts for the progressive nature and outstanding reputations reflected by the 四色AV chapters.鈥
