Senior marketing major lands semester-long internship

Alexis Krigbaum, a senior marketing major at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, landed a paid internship for the spring semester at Newcomer, Morris, and Young, a marketing and advertising firm in Monroe, where she has been diligently working since February.

Krigbaum, of New London, Mo., works primarily for the firm’s web department, performing a variety of web site updates for clients, including formatting pre-written content for some while directly contributing to the campaigns of others.

“I also do a lot of research based on what clients are asking for, for example, one client of ours wanted to have e-postcards available on their website, so I was assigned to find out how to make that happen,” she said.

Another major project Krigbaum worked on was researching search engine optimization for the firm.

“I just listed keywords that potential clients might go out and search, and noted where NMY landed in the results,” she said. “Then I presented it to the company, as well as some strategies for improvement.”

Krigbaum said the experience will be a perfect complement to the bachelor’s degree she expects to earn this May.

“It's been a really great experience, and they are wonderful to work for,” she said. “They have been really understanding with my busy schedule, which is greatly appreciated and pretty hard to beat!”

Krigbaum is also the recipient of a gold ADDY award for an idea she originated to promote eBay, the online shopping and auction web site.

She used a stock photo of a stack of presents and wrote copy referring to how hectic shopping is around Christmas, urging buyers to instead shop eBay. The ad also won a special Student Judge’s Award for Best Execution of Concept.
