Annual Wine over Water event a resounding success

The cool, early spring weather and star-studded skies provided the perfect backdrop for the fifth-annual Wine Over Water event on the bridge overlooking Bayou DeSiard at the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus.

Over 850 supporters enjoyed an appearance by Katherine Putnam, Miss Louisiana 2009 and Miss America third runner-up, along with the stellar entertainment provided by Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster at the April 8 event.

A record number of local restaurants – 27! – served up delicious samples of some of their best entrees as attendees cruised over the smooth waters of the bayou once again, courtesy of Letsinger Marine. Glazers served over 40 specialty wines, while Marsala Beverage and Coca-Cola provided other refreshments for the guests.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the “Spirit of the Warhawk” scholarship, which is designed to help keep the brightest students at home and attending ËÄÉ«AV.

The happy expressions on guests faces demonstrated the growing popularity of the Wine Over Water event. It was clearly a night for all to remember. And don’t forget, next year’s Wine over Water is set for Thursday, April 28, 2011!
