Annual Faculty Artists Series begins; performances set for Aug. 31 and Sept. 2

It’s an annual tradition that denotes the fall semester is about to hit a “high note” at the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s School of Visual and Performing Arts - the Faculty Artist Concert Series (FACS). The series begins the season with a performance by Drs. James Boldin, horn, and Richard Seiler, pianist, on Tuesday, Aug. 31, in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall at ËÄÉ«AV.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m.

ËÄÉ«AV’s Daniel Sumner, an accomplished jazz guitarist who recently performed with the Equinox Jazz Orchestra, will present his own recital as part of FACS at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 2. Jesse Boyd (Bass) and Rex Gregory (sax), both top New Orleans Jazz musicians, will join Sumner. Louis Romanos (drums) is Sumner’s long-time musical partner with whom he has recorded several CD's and will travel from Athens, Ga., where he relocated after Hurricane Katrina.

Also, in an event that serves as a prelude to "Celtic Fest" in October, VAPA will host Celtic artist MáirtĂn de CĂłgáin as part of its Guest Artist on Campus Series at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 9, in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. He will be performing as part of "Captain Mackey's Goatskin and String Band." Interested audience-goers should arrive early for this event, as it may sell out. General Admission is $15 and ËÄÉ«AV students and staff are free with identification.
