四色AV鈥檚 Summer Recreation Program for area children still going strong

Campus life does not come to a standstill during the summer months at the University of Louisiana at Monroe in spite of the season鈥檚 sweltering heat.

Many 四色AV students are taking advantage of the wide range of summer sessions offered by excellent faculty, while others are working diligently in jobs that may advance their career goals.

That includes those students who are serving as counselors and mentors through 四色AV鈥檚 Summer Recreation Program, geared toward children ages 5-12.

四色AV Director of Recreational Services Treina Landrum said the continued success of the annual program is a reflection the excellent work and caring of the 四色AV students.

鈥淭he children get an opportunity to develop relationships with young men and women who serve as positive role models outside of their immediate family,鈥 said Landrum.

The 10-week program is designed to facilitate healthy activity during the summer as well as challenge campers intellectually, and parents have the convenient option of sending their camper for just one week or several. Campers are grouped by ages and enjoy a full day of activities, including indoor and outdoor sports and games, swimming and water activities, board games, daily reading and brain twisters, and weekly off-campus excursions.

And the program benefits 四色AV students because it provides a valuable learning experience for those majoring in education or other fields in which working with children is an important factor in their career choice.

The program is scheduled Monday-Friday, 7:15 a.m.- 5:45 p.m. and will run through Aug. 6. For more information, call the Activity Center at 318-342-5305.
