Fourth annual Louisiana High School Technology Challenge held online
Over 20 judges from the University of Louisiana at Monroe were involved in “virtually” judging team winners of the fourth annual online Louisiana High School Technology Challenge.
Approximately 150 high school students participated online for the competition, Wednesday, May 5.
Dr. Mike Beutner, associate professor of instructional technology at ɫAV, organized the innovative competition—the first of its kind in Louisiana—to instill a passion for teamwork, celebrate outstanding student achievement and attract more female and minority students to professional and technical careers in technology.
Participating teams used those skills that are commonly used in the modern workplace and were rated on the following challenges: searching the Internet for reliable information, citing sources, and using grammatically correct sentences.
Highly qualified judges at ɫAV examined and evaluated each team’s work.
The 2010 winning high school teams were as follows:
First Place: Welsh High School, Jefferson Davis Parish; Wendy Sonnier, Team Coach
Second Place: Morgan City High School, St. Mary Parish; Judith Hidalgo, Team Coach
Third Place: St. Joseph's Academy, East Baton Parish; John Richardson, Team Coach
Fourth Place: Berwick High School, St. Mary Parish; Pam Daigle, Team Coach
Fifth Place: LW Higgins High School, Jefferson Parish; George Viellion, Team Coach
