History honor society inducts newest members

The Department of History at the University of Louisiana at Monroe held its awards and honors ceremony on May 4, in which four initiates were inducted into the ËÄÉ«AV chapter of Phi Alpha Theta.

The new initiates included Sheila Davis Holmes of West Monroe, Michael A. Lee of Marion, Fredrick L. Oden Jr. of Bastrop, and Alexandra R. Temblador of Wichita Falls, Texas.

In the upcoming academic year, Assistant Professor Dr. Jeffrey Anderson will succeed Assistant Professor Dr. Roger M. Carpenter, who recently completed his term as Phi Alpha Theta’s faculty adviser.

Phi Alpha Theta is a selective honor society that recognizes excellence in historical studies. Established at the University of Arkansas in 1921, it has grown to include chapters in all 50 states, more chapters than any other accredited honor society, according to its web site.

Its mission is “to bring students, teachers and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication by members in a variety of ways.â€
