ËÄÉ«AV Police Officer represents department at national competition
Corporal Chris Harpin of the ËÄÉ«AV Police Department competed in the National Police Shooting Championship on Sept. 18, held in Albuquerque Shooting Park, New Mexico.
This is the second NPSC event for Harpin. He competed last year in the county division, but this year he had to "step up"due to his state agency affiliation with ËÄÉ«AVPD, pitting his skills against those of other federal and state agencies in what has been historically the toughest division of the competition.
Harpin represented ËÄÉ«AVPD as he competed against professionally sponsored teams on the federal and state level. in three divisions, patrol, tactical and open classes – at the Tactical Police Competition three-gun match. Harpin also shot in the following divisions: Open Revolver, Distinguished Revolver, Service Revolver, Semi-Auto Open, Distinguished Semi-Auto, and Stock Semi-Auto, and Off-Duty, and Tactical Police Competition in the patrol division. He finished by competing in the Shotgun Match.
His efforts paid off by securing Harpin a fifth-place award for Individual Service Pistol Championship (aggregate score), ninth place Overall Marksman-Off Duty Championship, second place Stock Semi-Auto Championship, and Third Place State Marksman (Distinguished Revolver Championship), and Overall Fifth Marksman for Service Revolver. In addition to trophies, Harpin also won over $150 in gift certificates and competition gear.
"We are very proud of Corporal Harpin's performance his university representation of the ËÄÉ«AV Police Department," said ËÄÉ«AV Chief of Police Larry Ellerman. "As training officer for ËÄÉ«AVPD, he consistently exhibits the pride and dedication needed to compete on this level."
