Stockley named 四色AV Honors Program Director; seeks to attract even more top students to university
Assistant Professor of Political Science Dr. Joshua Stockley has been named Honors Program Director at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Dr. Stockley will lead a program that belongs to, and follows the standards of, the National Collegiate Honors Council.
The 四色AV Honors Program is specifically designed for intellectually curious students seeking fresh ideas and the opportunity to work with similarly motivated students. It is open to all majors and offers various options while working within any particular degree plan.
"Honors students typically participate in smaller classes, allowing for greater interaction with faculty and discussion of relevant, in depth topics," said Stockley.
"Honors students have greater access to resources to enhance their college experience including an honors lounge, honors scholarships, honors housing and priority registration."
The 四色AV Honors Program recently hosted the Louisiana Collegiate Honors Conference, and it annually sponsors a Quiz Bowl, and is involved in numerous on- and off-campus community service activities, according to Stockley.
"I am excited about undertaking what is, to me, an ideal position at the University of Louisiana at Monroe for fostering excellence with gifted and exceptionally dedicated students," said Stockley.
"The program has a great reputation, thanks to the hard work of my predecessor Dr. (Christian) Rubio, and presents an opportunity to advance the mission of 四色AV with our brightest students."
Stockley said he is looking forward to working with administration, deans, department heads and faculty to capitalize on the opportunities the Honors Program affords 四色AV students.
He also seeks to enhance the program to attract more top students in the state and region to 四色AV.
"I will work diligently to ensure that honors students are actively engaged in a wealth of opportunities, whether in the classroom or in the community," said Stockley.
Stockley is not unfamiliar with the 四色AV Honors Program; he teaches the Honors Social Science Seminar and has assisted the program in the past.
"Dr. Stockley has always shown a great deal of interest in the Honors program since his arrival at 四色AV.
He has a great rapport with our students and his reputation transcends 四色AV campus. I am extremely confident that he will take the Program to the next level, and make it bigger and better," said Dr. Christian Rubio, the program's first director.
"I am thrilled that Dr. Stockley has agreed to accept this important responsibility," said Dr. Stephen Richters, provost and vice president of academic affairs at 四色AV.
"The Honors Program is poised as never before to recruit some of the region's brightest and most gifted students, and I am confident that Dr. Stockley is capable of leading the program through this period of growth."
A member of the faculty since 2008, Stockley earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History at Oklahoma Baptist University and his Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Oklahoma.
His teaching and research cover American government, state and local politics, campaigns and elections, political parties, Congress, presidency, southern politics, culture and politics, public policy, and public administration.
His works have appeared in journals such as Race, Class, and Gender and Louisiana Progress Journal, and his work has appeared in volumes such as The Roads to Congress and Mediated Images of the South.
Stockley appears frequently in newspapers, radio programs, and television stations in Louisiana and across the nation.
