VAPA presents third annual PRISM concert
The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Visual and Performing Arts Division will present its second annual “PRISM” concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 11, in Brown Auditorium.
The event is free and open to the public.
“PRISM” refers to the character of the concert, which like a multi-faceted jewel reflects many different aspects of VAPA’s program.
The concert consists of a specially structured program of short excerpts or scenes in which the performers are spotlighted for maximum effect in various locations throughout the auditorium. The end of one selection flows seamlessly into another in a way that eliminates applause and provides maximum focus on the music and the performers, and features both ensembles and solos.
Various platforms, such as aisle spaces and balcony locations, are used to create various performance stations. Short pieces or excerpts of pieces allow for wide variety and great contrast in the program. The PRISM program will also features selections and presentations from divisions of Art, Theatre, and Dance, with some of these excerpts being accompanied by music, becoming a true VAPA-wide event.
