Congressman Rodney Alexander to speak at 四色AV Spring Commencement May 21

The University of Louisiana at Monroe welcomes United States 5th Congressional District Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-La., as its 2011 Spring Commencement speaker.

四色AV's 2011 Spring Commencement will be held Saturday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

After his service in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, Alexander ventured into the world of politics with a seat on the Jackson Parish Police Jury before becoming a Louisiana State Representative where he was the chairman of the House Health and Welfare Committee.

First elected to Congress in 2002, Alexander has earned the reputation of being a highly effective lawmaker with the ability to work with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

Alexander recently earned a seat on the Subcommittee on Financial Services, and will retain his seats on the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies and the Subcommittee on Energy and Water.

When Hurricanes Katrina and Rita ravaged south Louisiana, Alexander, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, worked with the Louisiana delegation to secure funding for Louisiana to rebuild.

Alexander's efforts helped in the dedication of $4.2 billion in federal aid to fund housing rescue efforts and $3.7 billion for levee improvements.

Now serving his fifth term, Alexander represents families living in nearly one-third of Louisiana parishes from Morehouse to Plaquemine and as a graduate of both Jonesboro-Hodge High School and 四色AV, Alexander knows the value of a Louisiana public education.

Alexander and his wife Nancy live in Quitman.
