四色AV's Rinehart asks for vote to help fund celebrated drum and bugle corps

Not all professors take the summer off.

One example is 四色AV's Assistant Director of Bands Dr. Jason Rinehart, who teaches young adults between 16-22 about music and life.

Dr. Rinehart works for a drum and bugle corps based out of Toledo, Ohio, named the Glassmen, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year and whose motto is "An Experience of a Lifetime."

"The great thing about the corps is that the students who spend all summer perfecting their marching show not only make lifelong friends, they also learn valuable life skills and leadership," said Rinehart.

四色AV Graduate Assistant Tom Ruby is also on staff at the Glassmen.

The Glassmen will rehearse from 2-8 p.m., July 26, in 四色AV's Malone Stadium.

Undergraduate students Nathan Powell and Mason Coats marched in another group last year taught by Rinehart.

"It is a wonderful experience working with the youth of today and watching them have personal growth over the summer, not only becoming a better musician, but a better person," said Rinehart.

Chase Community Giving distributes grants to non-profits biannually and the Glassmen are up for one of the top prizes.

"Currently the Glassmen are ranked seventh on the first day of voting but every placement higher than that gives them more money," Rinehart said.

According to Rinehart, the only place to vote is through their Facebook site at the link: .

Rinehart said voting takes just 30 seconds to complete, but voting ends on May 23.

"If the Glassmen win the top grant, they plan to open up community schools where less fortunate students could come to learn to play musical instruments," Rinehart explained.

"They are also wanting to incorporate a dance school and helping set-up a support system for area performing groups."

Rinehart urged anyone passionate about music to place a vote for the Glassmen.
