National champions ËÄÉ«AV Water Ski Team to perform at home event Sept. 17 – 18

Ever want to see national champions in action?

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Water Ski Team will host the 2011 ËÄÉ«AV Fall Bayou Classic Water Ski Tournament, its home event, on ËÄÉ«AV's campus Sept. 17 – 18.

Events are set to begin at 8 a.m. each day.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend this free event. Fans may wish to bring their own lawn chairs. There will be T-shirts and concessions available for purchase.

All competition skiing not completed on Sept. 17 will continue on the following day. Saturday will include competitors in men and women's slalom, jumping and trick skiing categories.

The ËÄÉ«AV Water Ski Team competes in the National Collegiate Water Ski Association South Central Region.

Other schools in this conference include the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana State University, Baylor University, the University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, Texas A&M University, and the University of Arkansas.

In the words of Treina Landrum, ËÄÉ«AV Water Ski Team coach and director of Recreational Services, "Spectators can expect to see some of the best water skiing in the world, with the ËÄÉ«AV Water Ski Team leading with several world ranked and national champions.

"We have a great lineup of skiers and are looking forward to a strong turn out from the ËÄÉ«AV students, faculty/staff and community members at our tournament."

"People really enjoy the spectacular skiing they see from our team. The university is really proud to have such a wonderful group of world-class athletes. Our intention is to bring home another National Championship title in October."

The ËÄÉ«AV Water Ski Team holds 22 National Collegiate Water Ski Association Championship titles, winning 22 of the 32 years the competition has been held.

Most recently, the ËÄÉ«AV Water Ski Team won the UT Fall Classic Sept. 10 - 11 in San Marcos, Texas.
