First Annual School Law Conference at 四色AV April 30

The University of Louisiana at Monroe will host its first ever School Law Conference MondayApril 30.

The conference is geared toward attorneys, school board members, school administrators, central office staff, or those interested in the legal issues affecting K-12 education in Louisiana.

The event will be held in the Student Union Ballroom, located on the second floor of the Student Union Building. The conference will be held from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Registration price is $200 per attendee.

Participants may register online or via walk-up registration the morning of the event.

Topics for the conference include, employee and student safety, electronic communication and social media, cyberbullying, privacy issues, and student discipline.

"It is the first of its kind to be held in northeast Louisiana," said Dr. Wayne Brumfield, Vice President for Student Affairs.

"It offers attendees an opportunity to interact with others in the field of education while gaining valuable information on legal issues affecting k-12 education."

The itinerary includes speakers and presentations from law professionals from across the state.

Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell will deliver the keynote address during lunch.

According to Brumfield, this legal seminar is modeled after the University of Texas' Annual School Law Conference. 四色AV's agenda was created by a committee of education professionals and school law attorneys, and will provide audience members an opportunity to hear from a wide variety of speakers, including Ty Manieri, attorney with the Louisiana Department of Education, and Ouachita Parish District Attorney Jerry Jones.

Continuing education credits will be offered to attorneys, school board members, and school administrators.
