KEDM Public Radio celebrates 21 years; reception on April 23

The first sounds of KEDM Public Radio were heard in Northeast Louisiana nearly 21 years ago.

The station will celebrate with a reception on the anniversary of the occasion of its first broadcast, Monday, April 23, at 4:30 p.m. in Stubbs Hall, Suite 250, on the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus.

The public is invited to join Friends of KEDM and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors in the studios for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

With a combination of community and university support, together with federal funding, a steering committee of community leaders succeeded in bringing the citizens of Northeast Louisiana and Southeast Arkansas a high-quality public radio service 21 years ago.

"It is important to recognize the investment of time and financial resources the founders gave so generously to enrich the quality of life for the citizens of the 15 area parishes and counties – enrichment that began nearly two decades ago and will continue for future generations," said Joel Willer, director of University Broadcasting.

The original steering committee members included: Chairman Fred N. Westrom, Dr. Warren O. Coleman, Dr. Roy G. Clay, Dr. Roy H. Ledbetter, Monroe Mayor Robert E. Powell, Judge Donald E. Walter, Dr. Dwight D. Vines, and Dr. Glenn F. Powers.

KEDM Public Radio is licensed to ËÄÉ«AV and broadcasts a line-up of in-depth news, classical music and jazz, along with special entertainment programs from studios located on the ËÄÉ«AV campus.
