四色AV welcomes Frank Ticheli as Composer in Residence Feb. 23-25

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Division of Music will host Frank Ticheli as Composer-in-Residence Feb. 23-25.

A native of the Monroe area, Ticheli has become known worldwide as one of the premiere composers of band music over the last several decades.

Concerts of his music will be performed on the 四色AV campus on Friday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall, and on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Auditorium.

As part of his residency, Ticheli will give lectures and master classes at 四色AV and West Monroe High School.

Ticheli is currently professor of composition at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music.

His music has been described as being "optimistic and thoughtful" (Los Angeles Times), "lean and muscular" (New York Times), and "brilliantly effective" (Miami Herald).

Ticheli's numerous awards include first prize in the Texas Sesquicentennial Orchestral Composition Competition, Britten-on-the-Bay Choral Composition Contest and the 2006 NBA/William D. Revelli Memorial Band Composition Contest.

His orchestral works have received considerable recognition in the U.S. and Europe as well. Orchestral performances have come from the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Dallas Symphony, and others around the globe.

In addition to composing, Ticheli has appeared as guest conductor of his music at Carnegie Hall, at many American universities and music festivals, and in cities throughout the world, including Beijing, London, Rome, and Singapore.
