四色AV's Faculty Brass Ensemble to perform in Thailand
Black Bayou Brass, the resident faculty brass ensemble in the 四色AV Division of Music, will perform as guest artists at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand this summer.
Group members include Alex Noppe on trumpet, James Boldin on horn, and Micah Everett on trombone.
As part of their week-long residency, the group will perform a recital on Tuesday, June 5, and offer master classes and lessons throughout the week to students in the College of Music at Mahidol.
In addition, the ensemble will perform concerts and hold clinics at several schools in the Bangkok area.
The trip is being generously sponsored by a joint effort between Mahidol University, the 四色AV School of Visual and Performing Arts, the 四色AV College of Arts and Sciences, and the 四色AV Office of Academic Affairs, with additional funding provided by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts.
Black Bayou Brass member James Boldin offers the following comments about their upcoming trip.
"Performing and teaching in Thailand, a country on the other side of the world, is truly a unique opportunity. Though we are each extremely active as performing artists, our scope of influence is largely limited to Louisiana and the surrounding regions.
The opportunity to perform for audiences from another culture is very rare compared to our day-to-day work, and this trip will give the Division of Music, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the entire university increased positive exposure on the international level. Mahidol University has one of the largest colleges of music in Southeast Asia, and we are honored to be invited to perform there."
The group will perform an exciting and varied program, consisting of original and arranged works for brass trio.
Their concert will include music by American composers Eric Ewazen, Jan Bach, and Arthur Frackenpohl, as well as arrangements by the members of Black Bayou Brass.
