Registration for 2013 四色AV Warhawk Triathlon now open; cash prizes awarded to winners
Registration for the Ninth Annual Warhawk Triathlon and Third Annual Youth Triathlon is now open to men, women, and children of all ages.
The family event will begin at the YMCA Lake C. Oxford Natatorium on the 四色AV campus at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, March 16.
This early season race is great for first-timers, or as a tune-up for the rest of the season.
This year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淒uck Dynasty,鈥 modeled after the popular local A&E television series 鈥淒uck Dynasty,鈥 which features 四色AV alum, Willie Robertson (B.S. 鈥96).
The race will feature an indoor 400 meter pool swim with 50 meter staggered starts based on participant鈥檚 estimated 400 meter swim times; an 11 mile flat and fast bike course; and a three mile run through the 四色AV campus.
The youth triathlon will be held at the same venue and will start at 10 a.m.
The youth triathlon distances vary based on age:
- 5-6 year olds will do a 25-meter swim, a 2-kilometer bike run, and .5-kilometer run
- 7-10 year olds will do a 100-meter swim, a 5-kilometer bike run, and 1-kilometer run
- 11-15 year olds will do a 200-meter swim, a 10-kilometer bike run, and 2-kilometer run.
For the first time, a cash payout will be awarded to the male and female winners of the course record, and the top three male and female finishers.
The course record prize is $200, and the top three finishers for men and women will be awarded $100, $75, and $50, accordingly.
Also for the first time, the race will feature a para-athlete division for those with physical disabilities.
The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon, which is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States.
