四色AV computer science students compete in programming contest
The University of Louisiana at Monroe鈥檚 Computer Science Department鈥攊n partnership with Praeses software development and services company鈥攔ecently held its annual ACM/IEEE programming contest on 四色AV鈥檚 campus.
Eighteen 四色AV computer science majors competed in the three-hour competition.
Dr. Jose Cordova, 四色AV faculty chair of computer science, said, 鈥淪tudents are given a set of problems to solve using the Java computer programming language. The objective is to solve the most problems in the least amount of time.鈥
Prizes donated by Praeses were awarded to the top three in each division. The top three contestants in the senior division were Lauren Chandler from Bossier City; Kyle McVay from Colfax; and James Newton from Monroe.
The top three students in the junior division were Walter Allen from Monroe; Sam Butler from Baton Rouge; and Jon Gorman from Pioneer.
Additional prizes were given to the first person to solve a problem in each division.
In the senior division, Chris Flowers from West Monroe solved a problem in five minutes.
In the junior division, Keith Black of Bastrop solved a problem in 34 minutes.
Before the contest, representatives from Praeses spoke to the students regarding internship and job opportunities at the Shreveport company.
