四色AV students honored by national organization

University of Louisiana at Monroe School of Education 补濒耻尘苍颈听Anthony Trombatore of Monroe and Kendra Slover of Vidalia, were recently recognized by the National Association for Alternative Certification (NAAC). The NAAC is a professional organization which advocates for standards-driven nontraditional educator preparation.

The organization聽awarded Slover with聽one of three NAAC conference scholarships. Additionally,聽Trombatore received an honorable mention award. Slover and Trombatore were nominated based on recommendations from their 四色AV supervisor mentors, Dr. Valerie Fields and Polly Dupuy of 四色AV curriculum and instruction.

Tiffany Jackson, professional development coordinator for the TEACH project鈥斔纳獳V鈥檚 Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) Program鈥攕aid the awards are indicative of the academic work being completed by M.A.T students.

鈥淭his is a testament to our program鈥檚 curriculum, structure and induction, support model,聽and the wonderful mentors that support our interns in the field,鈥 said Jackson.

Slover and Trombatore will be recognized at the annual NAAC conference held in Orlando, Fla., in March. The two will also be featured in the organization鈥檚 national newsletter, and on its聽website.

Trombatore earned a Bachelor of General Studies from 四色AV in 2007, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from 四色AV in 2013.

Slover earned a Bachelor of General Studies from 四色AV in 2012, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching.

About TEACH:

TEACH is a grant-funded project designed to assist eligible participants in 四色AV鈥檚 Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T) program. TEACH is a federal Transition to Teaching project.

The mission of TEACH is to increase the supply of highly-qualified, fully-certified teachers in high needs or high-poverty school systems in Louisiana. Thus, the goal is also accomplished through an alternative certification program that is university-based and offered in partnership with area high-needs school system.

TEACH participants become fully-certified in Louisiana by completing a Master鈥檚 of Arts in Teaching at 四色AV.
