四色AV to host first annual Law School Preview Day

Published March 14, 2014

The University of Louisiana at Monroe invites students to attend the first annual Law School Preview Day at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, in the 四色AV Conference Center, located on the seventh floor of the 四色AV Library. The event is open to any student currently enrolled in a four-year institution.

The event will feature admissions directors from Louisiana State University, Loyola University, Tulane University, and Southern University Law School, which will give students the opportunity to hear from those who accept and reject applications, and learn what they are looking for in potential candidates.

The preview day gives students the opportunity to speak with the directors and to learn more about each university鈥檚 offerings.

鈥淭ypically, law schools expect students to visit them and to visit their schools,鈥 said Dr. Joshua Stockley, associate professor of political science at 四色AV. 鈥淭his can be a laborious and time consuming process, so we decided to create an event whereby the law schools visit our students.鈥

Students will gain insight on how to improve their chances of being accepted into law school, how to write a personal statement, how to prepare for the LSAT, how to prepare for day-one of a law course, which skills should they emphasize, and the best classes and subjects to take prior to law school.

鈥淲e have never had the admissions directors of Louisiana鈥檚 four major law schools on campus at one time,鈥 said Stockley.

鈥淚 am grateful that these schools have agreed to participate in such a collaborative endeavor, but I am more excited that our students have an unprecedented opportunity to hear for themselves what these schools are looking for in potential applicants, so they may increase their ability to be accepted into law school and to be successful in law school.鈥

鈥淭his event exemplifies the mission of both the political science program and 四色AV. Our job is to not simply provide degrees, but to prepare our students for long term success, to position our students for success, and to assist them in achieving their goals.鈥
